It says something about the film industry when just having an original story is enough to get people in seats, let alone with the resumé of Gareth Edwards and Chris Weitz to back it up.

Few films in 2023 were in possession of world-building as good as this...

Edwards also wisely keeps events moving swiftly enough that we can't really linger on how little meat there really is on this story's bones. The Creator runs a shade over two hours, which is maybe one action set piece too far

Edwards excels at peeling black the layers of a cynical world, in order to reveal the little slices of humanity existing beneath the surface. Maybe, in coming to appreciate and understand what really matters, we'll be able to grow.

This action thriller with an existential underscore reiterates several tropes of the genre and yet works because of its efficient premise. [Full review in Spanish]
