As a movie it’s a little haphazard and it takes the misstep of trying too hard to create a strong dramatic arc by overegging his wild days that led to him catching the virus.

Vallée’s attempts to transform reality into a verité-styled exposé are degraded into a purely human interest story once McConaughey and Leto have finished showcasing their astounding ability to drop weight and hand themselves over to their characters.

Whatever the role, we see (Matthew McConaughey) expand his horizons and prove that he's a chameleon that can fit in just about anywhere.
