I’m a sucker for a good romance. I’m an even bigger sucker when it’s rooted in rich themes and concepts that shine throughout the film. Brooklyn‘s main romance is palpable and breathtakingly beautiful but it’s also cemented in something else.

["Brooklyn" is] s a gorgeous filmgoing experience that draws you into the life of its protagonist and her existential trysts as an immigrant and—before that—in her stifling social structure.

A turn to the past in order to rationalize the present, Brooklyn is a standout example of the forceful, empathetic tempest that cinema is capable of delivering to an audience.

While the story is sweet and alluring and the film looks fantastic, this is mainly a sparkling showcase for Saoirse Ronan.

This is classical filmmaking at its finest, transporting the audience to another time and place to flawlessly recreate the emotional context of Irish immigrants in this setting.
